Read on to find out more.
It is important to remember that there is no one site that has it all. Even local county sites have disclaimers in them with regards to the accuracy and timeliness of the information provided. Even so, these county sites are good starting points for your search. Here are the inmate search sites of the largest county prisons in Texas:
Bexar: http://apps.bexar.org/cmagsearchlist/
This site gives information only on individuals arrested for Class B felony or higher and had been processed by the magistrate in the last 24 hours. If you’re looking for someone charged with misdemeanor or was arrested 2 days earlier, better contact them personally. Available information includes the arrestee’s name, state ID, birthdate, race, gender, time of arrest, type of offense and bond amount.
Collin: https://apps.collincountytx.gov/JudicialRecords/Search
The Collin County website inmate search function contains information on current and former inmates and warrant lists. It also gives comprehensive data on individual inmates even including their photographs in most cases. There is no mention as to how frequently the site is updated however.
Dallas: https://www.dallascounty.org/jaillookup/search.jsp
To search for prisoner information on this site, you will need to input at least the first name, sex and race of the person you’re looking for. You can also search using their booking or case number.
Denton: http://justice1.dentoncounty.com/PublicAccess/JailingSearch.aspx?ID=500
You can use this site to search for jail bond records in Denton County. As with other sites on this list, the county makes a disclaimer as to the accuracy, reliability and completeness of the information it contains.
El Paso: http://casesearch.epcounty.com/PublicAccess/JailingSearch.aspx?ID=500
This site’s interface is remarkably similar to that of Denton County which means that you can also search for jail bond records but the accuracy, reliability and completeness of the information you’re getting may not be guaranteed.
Galveston: http://p2c.co.galveston.tx.us/jailinmates.aspx
This site gives off lists of more than a thousand inmates under their jurisdiction along with their date of arrests and primary charge.
Harris: https://www.harriscountyso.org/JailInfo/HCSO_FindSomeoneInJail.aspx
Unlike most sites in this list, information on the total amount of bail bond is not available in this site but you can see an inmate’s charges, bail balance and prospective release date (if any).
Lubbock: https://www.co.lubbock.tx.us/department/division.php?structureid=190
The disclaimer in this site claims that the information are available real-time. It gives off lists of current inmates, people arrested today and yesterday and even inmates released just today and the day before.
Travis: https://public.co.travis.tx.us/sips/default.aspx
To search the site, you need to encode the inmate’s name and press the submit button. It provides information on the inmate’s charges, bond amounts and other information.
If your loved one’s information is not available in the aforementioned sites, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) also welcomes email inquiries free of charge. All you have to do is state the offender’s full name and 7-digit TDCJ number in your email. If the TDCJ number is unknown to you, their birthday, approximate age or county of conviction may also do as a substitute. Remember to include the offender’s name in the subject line and be specific in your email as to the information you are requesting. Available information includes TDCJ number, offender location, offense of conviction, incarceration history, current incarceration and projected release date.
Phone
Perhaps the most direct way of inquiring for an incarcerated person is to contact the TDCJ by phone. Their line is available from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For telephone requests, either the offender’s TDCJ number of exact date of birth should be provided. Check this link for the contact numbers of the department’s different divisions: http://www.tdcj.texas.gov/offender_info/telephone.html
